A MESSAGE FROM DR. DESKIN…
Recently, it has come to my attention that there may have been a misunderstanding in patient communication regarding the instructions they received after the completion of their restorative dental appointments. These appointments would have been for the placement of fillings, onlays, provisional (temporary) crowns or provisional bridges.
Occasionally the shape of a new dental restoration may end up being too big or high for a patient’s bite. This situation is easily remedied with a brief adjustment to the shape of the filling.
A patient would notice this problem in one or more of the following ways:
- Unable to make all of the other teeth close together
- Sensitivity to cold, sometimes heat
- Pain when chewing or even gritting teeth together
- Rarely, throbbing or aching pains.
So, after any dental restoration is done, if a patient has any of these problems, they should call our office as soon as possible for a no-charge follow-up evaluation and correction of their bite, both of which will be performed by me personally.
Of course anytime a patient starts to notice any type of new discomfort in their mouth, they should call us as soon as possible.
Rather minor sensitivity to cold and/or and minor tenderness in the gums may be noted and take 1 to 2 months to fully resolve. If you experience pain or discomfort like this, that is very minor in nature, you can wait and see if it eventually goes away.
Many Thanks,
Dr. Steve Deskin
